Eco-production

“Ecological emergency”, “climate change”, “climate crisis”. The environmental issue is rightly on the lips of many scientists, politicians and citizens. In the French audiovisual sector, environmental issues have given rise to the term “eco-production”. It’s synonymous with a new awareness in the industry.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

For its part, the CNC (Centre National du Cinéma et de l’image animée) has also taken part in the action, deciding to introduce “eco-conditionality” for its financial support from 1 January 2024. A provisional carbon footprint will then have to be submitted to the CNC at the production estimate stage. It will have to cover the major areas of energy expenditure. These include transport, accommodation, technical resources, post-production, meals, waste management, etc.

ASSOCIATION ECOPROD

The Ecoprod association was set up in 2009 as a collective, then changed to associative status in 2021. Its six founding members have enabled it to develop: Audiens, the Canal+ Group, the CST, Film Paris Région, the France TV Group and the TF1 Group.

The aim of the association is to increase the involvement of cinema and audiovisual professionals in protecting the environment, and to develop and increase the number of virtuous approaches that can be taken.

To achieve this, the association develops tools, provides studies and offers advice to help professionals make the transition, in particular through a range of training courses, both certificated and non-certificated.

In addition to this support, the association has a label, awarded to members who make a practical commitment to respecting the environment in their professional activities.

Finally, the association provides film crews with the Carbon’Clap carbon calculation tool, approved by the CNC and required for the new eco-conditionality measure for its subsidies.
